Scarborough RUFC take on bottom club Huddersfield YMCA at Silver Royd on Saturday looking to get back on track following a mid-season slump in form.

‘YM’ were deducted 33 points at the start of the season when the Huddersfield YMCA parent club went into liquidation following a six figure tax bill from HMRC. They have lost all fifteen of their league games this season but have picked up recently with the return of some of their players who had been playing Rugby League with Hunslet Hawks; last week they gave second-placed Cleckheaton a run for their money but were on the wrong end of a 27-15 score-line.

Last Saturday Scarborough turned in an improved performance in a gale-force wind at Percy Park.  A tight defensive display into the wind in the first half was undone by the conditions gifting the home side a couple of fortuitous tries for a 14-0 lead at the break.  A  blocked Tom Ratcliffe grubber just outside the Park 22 bounced into the hands of home centre Ali Blair who ran almost the length of the paddock to score early in the second half. Tries From Angus Frend and Tom Harrison, both converted by Ratcliffe kept the visitors in the hunt; however they came either side of a well-worked home try and the hosts went on to win 26-14. This fighting performance in which the rub of the green never came their way will have given the Scarborough camp heart for the battles to come.

Coach Simon Smith still has his injury worries but is able to pick a strong line-up which includes Phil Watson who was unavailable last week. In the corresponding game at the start of the season Scarborough ran out convincing 35-14 winners thanks to tries from Tom Ratcliffe, Angus Frend and Nino Cutino, all of whom start on Saturday.

The Vikings are on the road on Saturday as they travel to Humberside to take on BP CHEMICALS; the Danesmen are at home on Saturday with their opponents yet to be confirmed. All three games kick-off at 2.15pm.
