LAST SATURDAY
Players from both sides were shocked and sickened when Scarborough prop Benny Blackall sustained a horrific injury just before half-time in the Top of the table derby between Scarborough and Driffield at Silver Royd last Saturday.
The visitors were leading 13-7 at the time and the game was held up for about an hour until the young Aussie was taken to hospital. When the game was restarted flanker Euan Govier broke away and released his brother Drew who sprinted over; fly-half Tom Ratcliffe added the extras for a narrow 14-13 Scarborough lead.
Driffield regained the lead at 14-16 with a penalty before Scarborough scrum half Jordan Wakeham darted over to regain the lead at 19-16. A Tom Ratcliffe penalty followed by a superb drop goal stretched the lead to 25-16 before a late try from hooker Stuart Smyth converted by Ratcliffe sealed a 32-16 bonus-point win. Jonty Holloway scored and Tom Ratcliffe converted Scarborough’s first half try.
BENNY
I’ve visited Benny in hospital a couple of times this week and considering his nasty injury he is in good spirits and hopes to be discharged this week.
MORLEY v SCARBOROUGH 16th November
Last week’s proceedings were traumatic for all concerned but the boys have been working hard in training this week before Saturday’s trip to Morley. Last season the Seasiders beat Morley 50-17 at Silver Royd in November. However when they travelled to Morley late in the season the home side raced to a 26-0 lead in as many minutes. A terrific fight-back saw Scarborough take the game to Morley; however they had lock Cade Robinson red-carded in the second half and eventually lost the game 31-39 gaining a penalty bonus point for scoring fIve tries. Morley have had a good start to the season and currently are sixth in the table; last week they won 14-10 on the road at Cleckheaton.
