Injury-hit Scarborough whose last appearance in the Yorkshire Challenge Shield was a win in the final 17 months ago, limped out of the competition at the first time of asking yesterday brushed aside by Malton and Norton who ran in five tries in a 31-10 win at Silver Royd.

The men from the Gannock crossed twice in the opening quarter to lead 12-0 before a terrific try from in-form Scarborough wing Jonty Holloway playing at fullback reduced the arrears at 5-12. However Malton bounced back with another converted try to lead to 19-5 at the break.

The visitors were reduced to fourteen men when flanker Matt Bowman was yellow carded in the 49th minute before the Seasiders reduced the arrears to 10-19 with an unconverted try from wing Jack Anderson in the corner in the 63rd minute.

A converted try by wing Jack Bulmer stretched the visitors’ lead to 26-10 late in the game before an injury-time touchdown from No8 and skipper Sam Triffitt saw his side to a well-deserved 31-10 win and progress to the next round of the competition.
