Scarborough plays their first Yorkshire Shield tie for seventeen months when they entertain Malton & Norton at Silver Royd on Saturday. They won the competition beating Old Rishworthians 41-27 in the final at Brantingham Park, Hull on the 13th of May 2018.

Last season the Seasiders eschewed the county knockout competitions to concentrate on their first season in North One East (N1E) and it paid off with Coach Simon Smith’s men ending runners-up in the league and narrowly missing promotion, losing the play-off game at Blackburn.

Scarborough and Malton have yet to meet in the league but as things stand the Seasiders sit top of N1E with the men from The Gannock in ninth place. Both sides were on the road last Saturday; Malton lost 23-14 at Pocklington whilst Scarborough had a narrow 14-13 win at Durham City.

The busiest place in Silver Royd of late has been the treatment room with skipper Drew Govier’s men suffering a catalogue of injuries; for Saturday’s game the backs have been re-shuffled with Jonty Holloway starting at fullback for the injured Henry Hocking, Joe Marshall returns from injury and Tom Ratcliffe moves to outside centre from fly-half where the experienced Phil Stewart comes in. In the front row; Benny Blackall who made an impressive start off the bench at Durham plays at tight-head whilst behind him Mikey Readman and Will Rennard provide a combination of youth and experience in the second row. The substitute’s bench is packed with experience and youth with Ian Williams and Jack Anderson joined by Tom Read and Sam Pollock who could possibly make his first team debut. Ben Martin and Aaron Wilson are still sidelined due concussion protocols but Wilson may return next week.

Saturday’s game at Silver Royd kicks-off at 2.15pm with the clocks having gone back last Sunday.
