Scarborough RUFC travelled to West Hartlepool with a much re-shuffled side due to injury and unavailability but came from 0-15 down in the first half to grab a bonus-point victory with a spirited performance.

The Seasiders made a sluggish start conceding an early penalty and a couple of tries (one converted) to trail 0-15 before the half hour mark.

Scarborough started the fight-back eight minutes before half time with a try from fullback Jonty Holloway instigated and converted by scrum-half Jordan Wakeham and followed up with a try from fly-half Henry Hocking with Wakeham adding the extras to trail 14-15 at the break.

The visitors went ahead for the first time in the game when centre Billy Parker crashed over two minutes into the second half and Wakeham added the conversion for a 21-15 lead. That advantage lasted ten minutes before ‘West’ struck back with an unconverted try to cut the lead to a single point at 21-20.

Both sides had a man sin-binned around the hour mark when Scarborough’s veteran wing Graeme Jeffrey was shown a yellow card swiftly followed by Hartlepool’s Painter; however the men from Silver Royd stretched their slender lead to six points when wing Tom Anderson dived in at the corner for 26-20 in the 66th minute.

Wakeham, who turned in an impishly livewire performance, missed the conversion to Anderson’s try but made no mistake with a penalty in the 75th minute for a 29-20 lead; all over? Not a bit of it; ‘West’ crossed with just over a minute remaining to reduce the arrears to 29-25 but the visitors shut up shop for a third deserved victory on the road.
