CHARLIE HOPPER

If you have been reading the sports section of the SCARBOROUGH NEWS lately you will see a new name among the sporting journos; Charlie Hopper has been covering many subjects for the paper including interviews with Scarborough RUFC Coach Simon Smith and skipper Drew Govier and you can read his report on the Scarborough-Cleckheaton game today.

Charlie is an aspiring sports journalist who will shortly start a Journalism degree at Sheffield Hallam University. He currently plays for Scarborough Cricket Club and has represented them for many years whilst also doing some radio commentary for Scarborough Athletic and some work on their social media platforms. He has also covered some age-level games for Yorkshire CC and is currently in contact with a cricket agency regarding some extra writing. For the last two years he has been studying at Queen Ethalburga’s in York whilst on a cricket scholarship.

As you will know I retired from my report-writing duties for Scarborough RUFC at the end of last season but as yet no one has volunteered to take over the role. Along with many other things the 19 year old student has on his plate, he has volunteered to help the club with match reports as and when he can which will be a great help to me as I am carrying on for the mean time

Charlie is of course the son of former Newby favourite Stephen Hopper who was first team hooker  for many years and has been involved with the club from an early age when he watched his dad play. He is excited to become involved with club having watched it grow over the years and hopes to attend as many games as he can with the time available considering his studies; a very warm welcome Charlie!
