SCARBOROUGH 39 BRADFORD & BINGLEY 26

By Dave Campbell

In another uneven performance Scarborough raced to an early 19-0 lead over Bradford & Bingley thanks to tries from scrum-half Jordi Wakeham, fullback Jimmy Perrett and winger Jonty Holloway, one converted by flyhalf Tom Ratcliffe. Centre Aaron Wilson crossed for a fourth try just before the break for a 22-0 lead and a bonus point.

A second try shortly after the break for Perrett converted by Ratcliffe stretched the lead to 29-0 and a superb cross-field kick by the big number ten saw wing Matty Young leap to collect and dive in for 34-0 before the hour.

It could have been a mauling for the visitors, instead they staged a spirited fight-back scoring four tries without reply to trail by only eight points at 34-26 with five minutes to go.

However, with the scoreboard clock showing 79 minutes played, hooker Sam Dawson powered over from a scrum on the visitors 22 for a 39-26 Scarborough win.

It was a real eleven-try thriller in front of over a thousand punters; however Blackburn ‘miraculously’ hammered the Isle of Man side who had beaten them at home on the opening game of the season!! Consequently the Seasiders will have to travel to Blackburn for the play-off game on April 27th.

In what way was it miraculous? Recent form:-

Blackburn Wa Wh Wa Wh La Wh Wh Wa Wh Wa HW Wa Wh
Douglas (I.O.M.) Wh La Wh Wa Wh La La Lh Wa Wh La Lh La

Blackburn only lost once since New Year. They lost a 93 – 0 win because the opposition did not have a replacement front row. It was declared a HWO.

I was being ironic Barry. I noted that DOUGLAS had many changes from their regular XV. Scores of 93-0 and 85-0 seem ridiculously high for a competitive level 6 regional league.
