Tom Hicks wins a lineout in Scarborough’s 22-17 victory over Morpeth in September
League-leaders Scarborough are on the road this weekend making the 215 mile round trip to Northumberland to take on Morpeth RFC.
With Matty Jones’s men beating Huddersfield YMCA last weekend and Morpeth winning last week, this game will be in a way, a repeat of last week’s fixture; a clash between first and second in North One East.
(NORTH ONE EAST INCLUDING GAMES PLAYED 12 JANUARY 2019)
Morpeth have made steady progress since their 22-17 defeat by Scarborough in a close fought game at Silver Royd back in October. Last week they won 29-5 on the road at Bradford & Bingley avenging a 20-21 home defeat by the men from Wagon Lane in September; their only home defeat of the season.
Last Saturday’s 13-12 home defeat of Huddersfield YMCA was proof if proof were needed of the Seasiders’ resilience and spirit and they’ll need both qualities in spades at Morpeth where Nino Cutino returns in the front row in an otherwise unchanged side from last week. However scrum-half Jordi Wakeham is doubtful as he is still struggling with a shoulder injury sustained against Bridlington before Christmas and will have a fitness test ahead of the trip north. The bus for Morpeth leaves Silver Royd at 9am on Saturday morning.
Also in action on Saturday are the Vikings who take on the the club’s third string, the Danesmen; kick-off 2.15pm.
