Following last week’s well-earned break from league action, Scarborough RUFC return to the fray at Consett later today where they take on the side currently propping up North One East. The county Durham-based outfit were promoted from Durham/Northumberland One at the end of last season when a late run saw them pip Durham City who had held top spot in the league from the off. Durham City then incomprehensibly refused the nominated play-off date with Scarborough and the Seasiders were promoted!

Consett lost their opening game of the season at home 34-36 to West Leeds and since then have failed to win a game home or away in the league culminating in last week’s 14-31 home defeat to Malton and Norton at their Amethyst Park HQ.

Having made a solid start to the season, Scarborough share top spot in North One East with York, Morpeth and Huddersfield YMCA but are bottom of that group with an inferior points-difference, mainly due to a poor defensive record. Having won four consecutive games the Seasiders slid to a 26-42 home defeat at the hands of Driffield in their last league game at Silver Royd.

For today’s game Manning Smith and Jonty Holloway start on the wings with Aaron Wilson drafted into the centre for Billy Parker who has work commitments. Up front Drew and Euan Govier are in the back row joining Ben Martin at No8 with Tom Hicks and Cade Robinson in the engine room. Jordan Holloway joins Nino Cutino and Jack Anderson on the bench.

The Vikings and Danesmen are also in action as they take on Hull University and Driffield respectively at Silver Royd; both games kick off at 2.15pm. The Valkryies take on Hull Ionians at Silver Royd tomorrow, kick-off at 2pm.
