Tries from Jack Anderson and Jordi Wakeham saw Scarborough lead 12-3 after half an hour at Silver Royd. However when influential second row Tom Hicks was sent to the sin-bin the Seasiders lost concentration and conceded three tries in ten minutes to trail 12-24 at the break.

Wakeham added his second early in the second half before Hicks took a pass from centre Aaron Wilson and crashed over to nudge the home side 26-24 ahead with quarter of an hour to go. Not for the first time, Scarborough nodded off and the Woldsmen added a penalty and three tries without reply in the final ten minutes for a deserved 42-26 win.

Coach Simon Smith’s charges are scoring tries for fun again this season with 22 touchdowns in their last four games and are playing wonderful skilled and exciting rugby. However, their tendency to completely switch off for fairly short periods and concede multiple tries has been alarming.

However it has to been said the squad have exceeded expectations in their first season in North One East and have garnered points in EVERY game they have played including today when they won a bonus point for  scoring four tries and share the four team lead at the top of the league with 33 points. With York they are the joint highest scorers in North One East but are let down by one of the poorest defensive records in the league. To be fair they have been playing with two players ( a wing/fullback and a second/back row) out of position in the centre.

They have a free Saturday next week and will have time to take a breather and reflect on  a marvellous start to the season; I’m sure they’ll be working on their game on the paddock before the long trek to bottom club Consett in two weeks time.

i have to agree with the lapse in their defensive lapses but this is more obvious due to excellant work displayed on defence second to none on most occasions, keep up the standard you have achieved up to now and i think we will have a great season in a much more competitive league than Yorkshire Div one,All the best for the rest of the season,A.T.R.
