Next up in Scarborough’s first season in North One East is near Neighbours Driffield at Silver Royd tomorrow.

Having been agonisingly close to promotion, only to concede an injury time try in their North One Premier play-off game with Wilmslow RFC at Kelleythorpe at the end of last season, Driffield have had a slow start to this season which is not uncommon for a side from a farming community.

The Woldsmen lost all three of their opening games which happened to be local derbies against York, Pocklington and Bridlington; although the York and Brid games were at home both were lost by a single point, 22-23 and 20-21 respectively. Since then they’ve won three out of five; last week they went down 20-25 to resurgent Bradford & Bingley at Kelleythorpe.

Last Saturday Scarborough travelled to Pocklington and came away with a creditable 36-29 win at Percy Road having trailed 19-29 going into the final quarter. First half tries from Sam Dawson, Jimmy Perrett and Aaron Wilson, two converted by Tom Ratcliffe saw the sides tied 19-19 at the break. Pock ran in a couple of early second half tries to lead 29-19; however Wilson and Perrett bagged their second touchdowns in the last twenty minutes with spectacular efforts; Ratcliffe converted both and added a late penalty to secure the side’s fourth consecutive win.

For tomorrow’s game Tom Hicks and Cade Robinson are in the second row with Jordan Holloway coming in on the flank ; Drew Govier returns for his brother Euan who is unavailable.  Jack Anderson plays on the wing with Manning Smith, Nino Cutino and Luke Brown on the bench. The game kicks off at 2.15pm.

The league game will be preceded by a fixture between Scarborough and Driffield Colts at 12.15pm whilst the Vikings play Driffield 3rds at Kelleythorpe.
