Tough trip to Pocklington for Scarborough RUFC this afternoon! by DAVE CAMPBELL

27 Oct

Newcomer Manning Smith is on the bench at Percy road.

They’re not getting over excited at Silver Royd following last week’s cracking 50-43 defeat of York that sees the Seasiders joint top of North One East.

Scarborough’s aim I think at the start of the season was to hold their own at level six with survival then consolidation a reasonable goal. And although it’s early days they have made strides towards that.

They travel to Pocklington having won their last three games and will take on a side which has had mixed fortunes since being relegated from the North Premier League at the end of last season. Opening wins against Bridlington and Driffield (both at home) then the defeat of Consett on road got them off to a great start. Since then they have won only one out of four and went down 27-55 at Bradford & Bingley last week.

Coach Simon Smith’s charges show several changes from the lineup that faced York; in the pack Cade Robinson starts in the second row with Tom Hicks in the back row. In the threes Jonty Holloway returns on the wing and Aaron Wilson plays inside centre. Kiwi newcomer Manning Smith joins Jordan Holloway and Nino Cutino on the bench.

It’s going to be cold this afternoon so wrap up warm if you’re travelling to Pocklington.
