Following last week’s well-earned break from league action, Scarborough RUFC return to the fray at West Leeds today looking for their first win on the road since the 55-33 defeat of Bradford and Bingley on the opening day of the season. However, they have managed to earn points from every game in which they have played and sit fourth in North One East behind leaders York, Bridlington and Morpeth who were beaten 22-17 at Silver Royd a couple of weeks ago.

Having won 36-34 at newly-promoted Consett on the opening day of the season West Leeds have lost four games on the trot, at home to Morley and Malton & Norton and at Percy Park and Bradford & Bingley on the road. Last Saturday they faced the ‘Bees’ for the second time in seven days and were knocked out of the Yorkshire Cup with a 25-48 home defeat.

With prop Nino Cutino and fly-half Tom Harrison sidelined by injury, Coach Simon Smith names an unchanged front row with Tom Hicks and Aaron Wilson in the second row and the Govier brothers Euan and Drew joining Ben Martin in the back row. Jonty Holloway is home from university and plays on the right wing; Jack Anderson is on the left wing. Jonty’s elder brother Jordan makes his first team debut as front row replacement and joins Luke Brown and Joe Marshall who has recovered from concussion sustained at Huddersfield YMCA.  Halfback pairing of Jordi Wakeham and Tom Ratcliffe who were outstanding against Morpeth, continue at nine and ten.

Saturday’s antagonists last met in season 2016-2017; West Leeds won 29-27 at Silver Royd despite Scarborough scoring four tries through Tom Ratcliffe, Jack Anderson, Alessandro Zavatti and Maloni Moata’ana. Centre Graham Hogg missed a conversion which would have drawn the game but the Seasiders won two bonus points, one for losing by less than a converted try and for scoring four tries. West Leeds won comfortably 37-15 at home.

With the first fifteen on the road, the Vikings once again take centre stage at Silver Royd as they take on Marist 1st XV this afternoon. Last Saturday they thrashed BP Chemicals 51-0.

Also in action a home are the Danesmen who this week have former first team stalwart Matty Else and his sons Sam and Tristan in action against Hullionians Hawks. All senior games kick-off at 3pm.
