Scarborough scored with their first attack of what turned out to be a cracking game against Cleckheaton at Silver Royd when hooker Sam Dawson powered over in the first minute. Fly half Tom Ratcliffe converted for 7-0.

The West Yorkshireman hit back with their first incursion into home territory when Centre Mike Swetman crossed and added the extras to level the scores at 7-7.

A try by Fullback Jimmy Perrett converted by Ratcliffe mid-way through the half restored the Seasiders lead at 14-7. An evenly-fought third quarter ensued and a converted try from fullback James Wilson levelled the scores at 14-14.

However Scarborough grabbed a first half injury time try through bustling second row Aaron Wilson; Ratcliffe converted for a 21-14 half-time lead.

A hard-fought second half was hugely entertaining but defences held way until late in the game when an unconverted try gave the visitors hope at 21-19.

Cleckheaton appeared to tire as they defended in depth near then own line late in the game and Dawson saw a gap and powered over for the clincher in injury time; Ratcliffe missed his first two-pointer of the afternoon but Scarborough ran out 26-19 winner.
