Clinical Scarborough brush aside North Ribblesdale challenge to go second In Yorkshire One!

10 Feb

Promotion chasing Scarborough moved into second spot in Yorkshire One this afternoon running in five well-worked tries without reply for a 33-0 bonus-point win against an industrious but limited North Ribblesdale side at a cold and soggy Silver Royd.

The Seasiders lost the services of prop Nino Cutino and last week’s man-of-the-match second row Phil Watson to late fitness tests and Paul Taylor started at tight-head with skipper Matty Jones reassigned to the engine room. Mikey Whitton started at loose-head.

Centre Jimmy Perrett crossed for an early touchdown, converted by Tom Ratcliffe for a 7-0 Scarborough lead in the 5th minute.

The visitors looked to level with a biting southerly wind behind them in the first quarter but fell further behind to a try from Scarborough hooker Sam Dawson in the 27th minute. Ratcliffe added the extras for 14-0.

And a slick move instigated by Ratcliffe saw skipper Matty Jones release Flanker Aaron Wilson to power over just before the break; Ratcliffe’s conversion stretching the lead to 21-0 at the break.

North Ribblesdale heads never went down in a hard-fought second half but Tries from No8 Ben Martin and a second for Jimmy Perrett converted by Ratcliffe saw Scarborough to an imperious 33-0 victory on a day when both sides did well to entertain a vocal Silver Royd turnout in bitterly cold conditions.
