Following last week’s postponement of the game with North Ribblesdale due to a frozen pitch at Silver Royd, Scarborough RUFC will be keeping everything crossed that their game with Wheatley Hills goes ahead tomorrow.

Their Doncaster-based opponents were relegated from North One East at the end of last Season and have struggled in Yorkshire One having won only one game which was their 13-9 home defeat of North Ribblesdale on the opening day of the season.

Last week the game between Beverley and Wheatley Hills was the only Yorkshire One fixture to beat the big freeze and Beverley ran out 28-20 winners of a close-fought game. That result saw the men from Beaver Park leapfrog Scarborough into third place. Wheatley Hills remain second bottom.

Matty Jones’s men travelled to play Wheatley Hills on the second Saturday of the season and came away with a bonus point from a keenly contested game. However, they did exceptionally well to win a match in which they managed to glean only about 30% of the possession coming up against a gnarled, well drilled pack of forwards. But playing to their strengths and with a committed team effort they managed to fashion four terrific tries to win 29-15.

Ben Martin returns at No8 in the pack with Euan Govier making up the trio of youthful loose forwards with Aaron Wilson. Mikey Whitton; Will Leah and Paul White are on the bench.
