Scarborough will look to bounce back from last week’s away defeat at Moortown tomorrow when they entertain strugglers North Ribblesdale at Silver Royd. The men from Settle have had a difficult start to the season having won only two of their twelve games so far; both at home;against bottom club Selby 34-5 on the 28th of October and fifth placed Old Brodlieans 26-20 three weeks ago. Last week they went down 26-6 to visitors Beverley also at home.

Last Saturday Coach Simon Smith’s charges suffered their third defeat of the season at Moortown. With scrum-half Jordi Wakeham missing having had a knee operation twenty-four hours earlier, Joe Lenton came in at scrum-half. In the original selection No8 Ben Martin was unavailable and was replaced by Aaron Wilson and Sam Dawson came into the back row. Lock forward Phil Watson was a late withdrawal with a chest infection and hooker Matty Jones moved into the second row and Sam Dawson moved from the back-row to hook without a ball being kicked. And that totally re-shuffled pack only lasted eight minutes when flanker Drew Govier was injured and Mikey Whitton replaced him for the remainder of the game. Unsurprisingly our reshuffled line-up struggled to get into the game and in the end were beaten 34-12 by a well-drilled home side.

Last season the game against North Ribblesdale at Silver Royd ended in disappointment when referee Kevin Weston sustained a calf injury five minutes into the second half and the game was abandoned. The game was re-played in January of this year with Scarborough running out 54-10 winners. For today’s game Ben Martin and Phil Watson return in the pack. Tom Harrison returns at fly-half and Jim Perret plays at scrum-half. Behind them Tom Ratcliffe moves back to outside centre, Jack Anderson plays on the right wing and Jonty Holloway plays at fullback. Euan Govier replaces brother Drew who was injured at Moortown. Silver Royd coaching supremo Smith will look to his depleted charges to bounce back from last week’s disappointment and return to winning ways tomorrow.

Elsewhere this weekend, the Vikings travel to Lincolnshire to take on Grimsby seconds whilst the Danesmen entertains Hull University. On Sunday the Valkryies, conquerors of Hullionians Ladies last week travel to West Park Leeds.
