Dave Campbell’s comment on injury to Scarborough’s Tom Harrison

26 Oct

Rugby is a game of physical contact and if not played to its laws and spirit can be dangerous. At RFU level 7 the game is in general an amateur one and players having played on a Saturday; have to go to work on a Monday to support their families. The action of the Brods’ player who stamped on Scarborough player Tom Harrison’s hand and broke it in two places was thuggery plain and simple. His injury has left the recipient, a new father unable to drive and therefore unable to work. Given the nature of the game, accidents will inevitably happen and injuries will occur; however this was no accident and in my opinion a stiffer sanction than the yellow card shown in this case would be appropriate.
