Following last week’s 48-14 thumping of Bradford Salem at Silver Royd, Scarborough are on the road tomorrow as they travel to Acklam Park to take on Teesiders Middlesbrough RFC.
JAMES LEACH SCORES FOR SCARBOROUGH photo ANDY STANDING
Last October the Seasiders turned in easily their poorest performance of the season against Middlesbrough slipping to a 12-25 defeat in the Yorkshire Shield at Silver Royd. To compound their misery, they lost the services of promising lock forward James Leach who dislocated his knee and was taken to Scarborough Hospital and subsequently to York where he underwent surgery and has not played rugby since. Due to the delay caused by the injury and the inability to move Leach, the game was completed on an adjacent pitch. It was a horrible day!

Scarborough’s last visit to Acklam Park was in November 2014 and what a cracker it turned out to be. The visitors raced to a 21-7 half time lead only to implode after the break when flyhalf Tom Chadwick was carried off with an injury which kept him out of action for several months and Harry Domett was sent-off. The flying Kiwi was given a second card for laughing at the referee! Don’t ask me what transpired between player and official but it is worth knowing (or is it ?) that the ref was also from New Zealand. A spirited Middlesbrough fight back saw them just sneak the game 26-24; a remarkable turnaround.
MIDDLESBROUGH-YORK last week – photo kind permission YORK RUFC
Last Saturday Middlesbrough took on league-leaders York at Acklam Park and almost managed the upset of the season so far. A try with the last move of the game saw the Teesiders come within a conversion for a famous victory trailing 20-21. Unfortunately the conversion was missed and the Minstermen got out of jail. Considering that skipper Matty Jones’s men were hammered 56-7 at York a couple of weeks ago it could be a long afternoon for the Seasiders.
