Scarborough makes the short journey south tomorrow to take on Bridlington in what should as usual be a keenly-fought local derby at Dukes Park.

‘Brid’ have made a positive start to their Yorkshire One campaign beating visitors Old Brodlieans 24-11 on the opening game of the season. However they didn’t have everything their own way last week, managing to snatch a narrow 12-9 win with an injury-time try at Halifax-based outfit Heath RFC.

Scarborough bounced back from a narrow 10-6 defeat at Selby on the opening day of the season to beat high-flying Yorks 20-17 in a close-fought affair at Silver Royd last Saturday. The Minstermen outscored Scarborough 3 to 2 on tries but the boot of Graham Hogg proved to be decisive.
For tomorrow’s game Coach Lee Douglas will be without the services of fullback Graeme Jeffrey who is unavailable due to family commitments; his replacement at fifteen had not been announced at the time of going to press or the identity of the squads eighteenth player.

Dukes Park hasn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground for the Seasiders but games there have almost always been close. Last season the home side just edged it 22-18 whilst Scarborough won the fixture 24-17 in season 2014-15. No matter the outcome this is always a derby played with ‘edge’; tomorrow, I’m sure will be no different. Unfortunately, the good lady wife, Mrs C is still incapacitated with here broken leg etc and I’ll miss the Dukes Park derby for the first time in many years. However I may get leave it pop in for the Vikings’ game tomorrow.

DAVE BECK
It was great to see former Coach Dave Beck back in harness at Silver Royd in his new role; Dave had to stand down due to family commitments a few seasons ago.
A BUSY SILVER ROYD LAST SUNDAY
I spent an enjoyable morning at Silver Royd last Sunday watching the minis and juniors going through their paces. As usual it was a delight to see the many voluntary coaches in action with their charges.
