Scarborough were shocked when visitors York scored within a minute of the start of their local derby with York at Silver Royd this afternoon; fullback Tom Newitt running from his own 22 the length of the field through a somnambulant home side to touch down.

However the Seasiders struck back with tries from second row James Leach and scrum-half Jordan Wakeham. Centre Graeme Hogg added seven points with his boot for a 17-5 lead  midway through the first half.

The men from Silver Royd temporarily lost the services of centre Maloni Moata’ane who was yellow carded on the half hour. The visitors took advantage of their numerical advantage to cut the deficit to five points with a try on the stroke of half time.

A thunderous second half saw Hogg stretch the home lead to 20-12 with a penalty but a further York touchdown ensured a nail-biting finish for the Scarborough faithful. However the home side battled it out for a narrow but deserved 20-17 win.
