Ahead of their pre-season friendly with North One club Pocklington on Saturday Scarborough received the welcome news that former skipper Phil Watson who has been missing from the Seasiders line-up with injury for an extended period has been given the all clear to play this coming season. The big ex-Castleford back five player will be a huge asset to what should be one of the strongest forward packs the Silver Royd club has able to field for many seasons.

The Scarborough eight which will include returning front rower Kiwi Matty Jones, James Leach, Issac Faamau and Ethynne Terblanche should be more than a match for must Yorkshire One sides.

Behind them the line-up is far from settled; with the departure of Tom Chadwick and Tom Harrison’s injury, the fly-half position may be problematical. Joe Lenton, who played on the wing and at scrum-half last season plays at number ten in tomorrow’s friendly. Utility back Maloni Vakauta Kakala Moata’ane; known as Loni Loni for short has yet to arrive but when former skipper Tom Ratcliffe returns from honeymoon things should become clear. Dynamic young scrum-half Jordan Wakeham is also raring to go.

With several players and Coach Lee Douglas still on holiday, tomorrow’s game will give the Silver Royders a chance to see many fringe players and newcomers in action over the four quarters to be played and an entertaining afternoon’s rugby is in store. Kickoff is 3pm and entry is free.
