NORTHERN DIVISION – YORKSHIRE ONE
SELBY 33 SCARBOROUGH 31
By DAVE CAMPBELL
A much-reshuffled Scarborough side ended their league campaign with a typical curate’s egg of a performance at relegation threatened Selby.
Playing into the teeth of a biting wind the visitors struggled in the early stages of an error-strewn first half.
And although Selby led 11-6 on the half hour, a try from Scarborough skipper Tom Ratcliffe saw the scores tied 11-11 at the break.
An exciting second half saw the sides share six tries with the Seasiders leading 31-30 going into injury time.
Scarborough’s front row which had been re-shuffled several times during the game struggled at a thrice set scrum just inside their own 10 metre line in the sixth minute of injury time. And when referee Mr Saunders eventually ran out of patience, visiting loose head Alassandro Zavatti was pinged for standing up.
Selby fly-half Scott Hunt was unerring with his kick and Selby celebrated a memorable win.
