DAVE CAMPBELL
For Scarborough RUFC’s first team it’s a free Saturday today and although there is no live rugby at Silver Royd, the Vikings are in action at BP Chemicals at Hull.

JAMES LEACH(with ball) IN ACTION
The Silver Royd second string are having a good season although a side weakened by first team call-ups was beaten 0-44 by a strong Driffield Centurions (2nd XV) at home a couple of weeks ago. Skipper Simon Dixon’s side is strengthened by the inclusion of first-teamers James Leach, Wesley Langkilde and Ian Williams in the pack.

VICTORIOUS VALKRYIES AT ACKLAM
The Valkryies were mighty disappointed when their home fixture with Barnsley fell foul of the weather last weekend. Tomorrow they travel north to take on Bishop Auckland Ladies who were beaten 25-12 at Silver Royd on the 31st of September.
Andy Standing my photographer friend is ever the innovator and has come up with some ideas for merchandising at Scarborough RUFC. One kite he has flown recently was for club key rings with pictures of your favourite players. I was given a few to choose from and picked the item below!! More to follow soon.
The match programme at Silver Royd these days is a very professional, glossy product packed with articles and information and as someone who covers the team home and away is easily the best programme to be had in the Yorkshire and Northeast leagues. A far cry from the item I produced with my old typewriter and Gestetner Cyclograph device back in 1984 when I returned to Scarborough after three years working abroad. I had a friend sketch me a drawing of a lineout and produced the programme on either side of an A4 sheet of paper with the teams and FROM THE TOUCHLINE. I produced a programme for EVERY home game so it was quite labour intensive and it was sometimes a problem getting the likes of Old Rodillians third team but it was a fun time; I think I prefer the present programme though.
A PROGRAMME FROM 1994 AND A GESTETNER MACHINE
Huge congratulations are due to local woman’s international rugby star Zoe Aldcroft who has been shortlisted for Premiership Player of the year award in her first season with Mowden Park Sharks. Zoe played in England under-20’s 24-24 draw with France last week and will travel to Chantilly RFC on Saturday 19 March for the return game.

ZOE IN ACTION AGAINST FRANCE
Finally, don’t forget all of this weekend’s SIX NATIONS action can be seen on the big screens in the J.M. GUTHRIE clubhouse.
