SCARBOROUGH 5 YORK 13

By DAVE CAMPBELL

Scarborough slid to their third consecutive home defeat of the year beaten by a well-organized York side in bitterly cold conditions at Silver Royd.

Playing with the elements the Seasiders grabbed an early lead when stand-in scrum-half Toby Welby made a searing break from the base of a Scarborough scrum in the York half and released James Leach who powered over.

Referee Andy Hogson was unsighted and the big Scarborough lock’s effort was disallowed. However from the resulting scrum the ball was moved left and fullback Ant Coffey powered over for a 5-0 lead.

York brushed this early reverse aside and came back strongly to score a couple of well-worked tries from forward drives to lead 10-5 at the break.

A much improved Scarborough second half performance should have produced more but a late penalty saw York to a 13-5 win.
