Scarborough’s women’s team the Vakryies ran out winners of their historic first League game on Teeside coming back from 19-10 to grab the points with a 32-26 win.
The Silver Royd woman surged to a 10-0 lead with only a quarter of an hour on the clock thanks to a couple of tries from No8 Jenna Redmond and looked lively in the first quarter.
A couple of tries by Yorkshire fly-half Tara Breslin plus a conversion saw Acklam lead 12-10 at the break. A further try and conversion just after half-time saw the home side to a 19-10 lead.
A Hayley Evans try reduced the arrears to four points for the visitors at 19-15 before tries from Dani Rowley and Jess Glanvill stretched the lead to 25-19 in the closing stages of the game.
Skipper Cathy-Ann Myers clinched the win with a superb solo effort she converted herself for a 32-19 lead. However another elusive Tara Breslin run for a try she converted herself reduced the arrears to 26-32 with the last move of the match.
The Valkryies entertain Morpeth in the league next Sunday at Silver Royd.
