Scarborough kicked off their league campaign last week with the 21-0 defeat of Selby at Silver Royd and are on the road tomorrow as they travel to Halifax-based side Heath looking to continue their promising start to the season.

They make only one change to last week’s starting fifteen where Paul Taylor starts in the front row for Mark Hopper who is unavailable; however skipper Tom Ratcliffe who left the field with an eye injury last week returns in the centre. Drew Govier who was man-of-the-match on his debut against Selby plays open-side in the back row with James Leach at No8 and Aussie powerhouse Eamon Chapman at blindside.

The sub’s bench provides plenty of interest this week with two debutantes in youngster Ben Martin and Canadian prop Alessandro Zavatti named alongside Jordan Wakeham who was unavailable last week. Martin is highly regarded by his coaches and is a Yorkshire under-18 player whilst prop-forward Zavatti arrived from Canada early this week; Jordan who has recovered from an ankle injury was in London for England-Ireland last week.

SCARBOROUGH LAY SIEGE TO HEATH LINE AT NORTH DEAN

SCARBOROUGH LAY SIEGE TO HEATH LINE AT NORTH DEAN

Coach Lee Douglas’ charges came away from Heath’s North Dean HQ last season with a bonus point 28-10 win thanks to tries from Matty Else, Taylor Smith, Nick Ingham and Mikey Readman; of those only Readman plays tomorrow. The Seasiders completed the double over Heath with a 20-12 win at Silver Royd back in April. The west Yorkshiremen now have three new coaches; Dave Harrison, Mark Sales and Chris Brown and made a great start to the season running in six tries in a 36-21 win at Yarnbury last week. Yarnbury faded badly at the end of last season, so I can’t comment on their playing strength; however everything points to a close-fought game at North Dean tomorrow. A coach leaves Silver Royd at 10.30am.

SKIPPER CATHY-ANNE MYERS SCORES FOR THE VALKRYIES LAST SEASON

Sunday sees the start of the Valkyries first league season; the Silver Royd woman’s team travel to Middlesbrough-based club Acklam for the historic game which kicks off at 2pm. Acklam were their opponents when they played their first ever 15-a-side game back in March when they overwhelmed the inexperienced Teesiders 92-0; however I expect a much closer game this time.

Tomorrow’s game at Silver Royd sees the Vikings take on Hull-based outfit BP Chemicals. The club second string has a very strong line-up with Joe Lenton, Joe Marshall, Paul White, Phil Stewart, Andy Rossol and Hayden Ogilvie amongst eleven of the 21 man squad having had first team experience.
