JORDI WAKEHAM (2ND LEFT) IN ACTION AT SELBY

Scarborough kick off their Yorkshire One campaign tomorrow against Selby looking to improve on last year’s league result at Sandhill Lane where they let a 20-6 half-time lead slip and conceded a late penalty to slide to their first league defeat of the season. And although they triumphed 36-33 at Selby in last season’s Shield semi-final, once again the home side battled back having been 24-7 adrift at half-time; so concentration will be the watchword tomorrow afternoon. It’s a measure of how personnel have changed at the club that only five of the starting line-up from the Shield game plays tomorrow. For the Seasiders’ last week’s man of the match young Jordi Wakeham continues at scrum-half, Ian Williams replaces Mark Hopper, whilst the experienced Matty Else plays his first game of the season at No8 with Matty Oxtoby moving to blind-side. Tom Fish, Billy Parker and youngster Hayden Ogilvy are on the bench. I have been reliably informed that at least two experienced forwards will shortly join the club; however it’s heartening to see that two-thirds of tomorrow’s side is made up of home-grown talent. If you can’t travel to Selby tomorrow you can follow the game with me on twitter at @SN_Sport

The season kicks off at Silver Royd tomorrow as the Vikings entertain Selby 2nds; again plenty of home-grown talent on show with the Day brothers, Rory and Jordan, the Sharps: Paul and Alex and Joe Lenton and Mark Hopper who drop down from the first XV squad all in the Vikings side. Both 1st XV and Vikings squads for tomorrow are on the club website at www.scarboroughrugby.co.uk
