COREY DENNIS RETURNS TO ACTION NEXT SEASON

Scarborough RUFC has announced that RFU Championship side Yorkshire Carnegie will be coming to the East Coast this Autumn when they play their British & Irish Cup Match against Rotherham Titans at Silver Royd at 8pm on Friday the 10th of October under floodlights. The Match is part of ‘Carnegie’ Chairman Sir Ian McGeechan’s vision to promote rugby throughout the county and for the last three seasons the Leeds-based outfit has taken selected home fixtures around the county

Commenting on the announcement the former British Lions and Scotland Coach said, “I am delighted to be welcoming Scarborough into our circuit of venues, it is vital for us to spread the word about Yorkshire Carnegie and our ambitions for Rugby Union in the county to as many people as possible and these games certainly allow this. We were extremely impressed by, not just the set up at Scarborough but also their enthusiasm to make the game a big occasion for them as a club.”

Following recent county games this fixture is undoubtedly a coup for the club but I’m sure most of the Silver Royd faithful are just as interested on developments on the playing front at the club. Recent departures, particularly prop Nino Cutino have left the tight five alarming short of experienced props but in a conversation today with an officer close to the heart of the company it was made clear to me that although in every other respect the club was run professionally, the ethos on the playing front was unshakable; in that Scarborough was an ‘amateur’ club on the playing side and will remain so. However, I was informed that the front-row will be bolstered by a new antipodean prop before the start of the season. The club has been recruiting and Leeds-born
fullback Andy Rossol and former Bridlington utility back Martin Robinson have joined the club this summer. In addition Corey Dennis, Zbynec Schutz, Harry Dommet, Joe Marshall and new YDO Tom Chadwick will all be part of a powerful back division.

Finally the club have arranged only one pre-season game; at home to Kirby Lonsdale on Saturday the 16th of August. The second round Yorkshire Shield tie at Barnsley has been brought forward from November 8th to Saturday the 31st of August.
