skipper’ Tom Ratcliffe’ runs in a try at Silver Royd

With the start of the new season only about six weeks away I took a trip up to Silver Royd earlier today to have a world with Director of Rugby Mike Holder and new Youth Development Officer (YDO) Tom Chadwick. 21 year old Liverpool-born Tom who graduates from York University this week played his club rugby with Liverpool Collegiate and represented Lancashire at under 16 and under 17 levels before moving unto York and for a while was a part of a Sale Sharks coaching group for emerging talent. He is available to play at fly-half for the Seasiders.

The first thing we discussed was the appointment of Club Captain.  Former YDO and star front row forward Matty Jones has failed in his attempt to gain a visa and won’t be returning to the club this season.  After much discussion the board has appointed Tom Ratcliffe to the position and he has enthusiastically accepted.  The club has been recruiting and Leeds-born fullback Andy Rossol and former Bridlington utility back Martin Robinson have moved to Silver Royd this summer. In addition Corey Dennis, Zbynec Schutz, Harry Dommet and Chadwick will all be part of a powerful back division. Up front Recruitment Officer Nick Ingham has been on the hunt for props to add experience to the front row following the departure of Nino Cutino to Harrogate. Club prop forwards Paul Taylor and Ryan Pickering have been working hard on their fitness and technique at pre-season training which is going well.

In other news, former under-17 coach Keith Marshall will take on the job of supervising the transition of the club’s youth players to the senior ranks; a very important task. In preparation for the season, Lancashire club Kirby Londsdale RFC with visit Silver Royd on Saturday the 17th of August and the club hope to bring forward their 2nd round Yorkshire Shield tie from the 8th of November to the 31st of August.
