What a great weekend of sport; all on the telly I’ll grant you. It started off with a superb steak at the club on Friday evening, then back up the next morning for the Lion’s game with the Waratahs.  Once again the opposition could have been stronger but that’s up to the organizers; the players have to do the business whatever the strength of the opposition in front of them, and they certainly did that with a convincing 47-17 win at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney. A great platform from the forwards and probable test selection winning performances from wing Simon Zebo and centre Jonathan Davies were the cornerstone of the win; however Jamie Roberts limped off with a hamstring problem.  A surprisingly good show by Scotland in South Africa saw them go down 30-17 to South Africa and a young Welsh side were beaten 23-8 by Japan. Later in the day England, as expected, had too much for Argentina and ran out 51-26 victors to clinch the two test series. All good stuff and next up was the ICC Champions Trophy game between England and New Zealand on Sunday. Here I must state that for some reason apart from simply being a big England fan, it makes my day when we win but it REALLY depresses me when we lose. I suppose at my advanced age that is never going to change! The game was reduced to 24 overs per side (virtually a T20) when rain held up proceedings in Cardiff until 3.45pm but as you will know England went on to win by 10 runs and move into the semi-finals. So, summer without live rugby at Silver Royd is no problem with a feast of sport on TV, as long as you have SKY!
