SAM WARBURTON IN ACTION

With the end of the rugby season I have been concentrating on my non-rugby interests over the last few weeks including a great trip to London (one of my favourite haunts) and a chance to indulge my other passion, drama. Not that I’m a Thespian but I do enjoy really good theatre.  On my last trip to the capital, apart from a trip to the top of The Shard, the highlight was the chance to catch Simon Russell Beal and John Sim in a revival of the Harold Pinter play The Hothouse at the Trafalgar Studios. Great performances all round from a top cast with Beal in top form. I digress; tomorrow sees the second real test for the Lions who take on the  Waratahs in Sydney; With injury worries among the backs Warren Gatland has selected Simon Zebo who has joined the tour as an additional wing as backup to the injured Tommy Bowe. He has however a plethora of back row forwards and picks Sam Warburton to skipper the side from number 7. The Wales and Lion’s skipper could lose both the captain’s armband and his place in the opening test if he fails to improve on a poor showing in last week’s win over the Queensland Reds. I was up at the J.M. Guthrie for dinner yesterday evening and I’m told that the club has signed a couple of Kiwis. Hopefully I’ll have more on that after a visit to Silver Royd tomorrow morning to take in the Lions Game.
