ZOE ALDCROFT DRIVES FOR THE MIDLANDS LINE

Scarborough Rugby Club played host to the England Woman’s Divisional championship for the first time on Sunday. Peerless weather and a slight overnight frost ensured optimum conditions for rugby and games between the Northern Division and Midlands at under-15 and under-18 levels kicked-off at noon. The Midlands had the upper hand in both games  with a 22-5 win for their under-15s on pitch three and 22-12 at under-18 level on the main Silver Royd paddock. Local girl Zoe Aldcroft played on the right wing for the North in the under-18 game but couldn’t get on to the score-sheet as her forwards were under the cosh for a much of the game. However she had her moments in defence and was only dragged down short of the line by three defenders (see picture above) in the second half. The main event of the day, the senior clash saw The North race to an early 19-0 lead. However the Midlanders rallied and a hugely entertaining game was provided for a big Silver Royd turnout with the North running out convincing 41-7 winners. The event which was very successful will have advanced Scarborough’s reputation as a prime venue for representative rugby.
