Unfortunately I was hospitalized following an operation in York last weekend and missed the Ilkley game but I’ve obtained a report on the match at Stacks Field where not for the first time this season Scarborough let the game get away from them in the first half when Ilkley ran in tries through ex-Malton man Tom Collard, Iain MacKenzie and winger Paul Petchey to lead 17-3 at half-time. Tom Ratcliffe kicked a penalty for the visitors. An early second half revival saw centre Ratcliffe run in his 13th try of the season which he converted himself to reduce the arrears to ten points. Skipper Stuart Vincent stretched the Ilkley lead mid-way through the half before Corey Dennis scored what was arguably the best try of match; gaining possession in his own half, the Scarborough fullback danced round four home players before sprinting almost the length of the field, chipping over the cover defence, before releasing fly-half Phil Stewart, up in support to drive over. Ratcliffe added the extras and it was a seven point game at 24-17. Although an in-form Dennis had the Ilkley faithful biting their nails at times with his incisive play, they regained control and clinched a bonus-point 31-17 victory with a late second try from Paul Petchey.
