Following a board meeting on Wednesday evening Scarborough announced the new rugby structure for the coming season. With the resignation of Dave Beck due to a family illness, club stalwart Jason Lowde has taken over his responsibilities as Head Coach. Jason joined the club ten years ago and has been a permanent fixture in the front row ever since. A prop with superb hands the big man from Hemel Hempstead had spells with clubs in the southern hemisphere, at Saracens and has been a Hertfordshire county player for many years. A family man who is very passionate about his rugby, he is a popular figure at Silver Royd. Former first team fullback Phil Barker who played in the Newby ‘dream team’ with Marcus Edwards, PB Woolley, Rob Bell, Carl Holdsworth, Ian Warwick and others early in the ‘noughties’ has been named as assistant coach. Craig Farrell is prevented from continuing with his coaching role at the club due to work commitments but hopes to contribute on an ad hoc basis.  Big Phil Watson, who arrived at the club from Castleford last summer and made a big impact, succeeds Nick Ingham as club captain. Nick has taken up a new role as Recruitment and Retention Officer. Dave Smith who has returned this summer from his two year sojurn in New Zealand becomes first team manager with the redoubtable Andy Downes taking charge of the Vikings. A Danesmen coach has yet to be named but Richard Dean will continue in charge of the Norsemen. A very positive players meeting with the new coaching/management team was held last night at the club ahead of training starting next month.
