BRAAI AND BEER FOR SOUTH AFRICA TEST

England play the first of three rugby tests matches in South Africa on Saturday and Scarborough Rugby club are throwing a Beer and Braai (BBQ) party at Silver Royd. ‘Braai’ is Afrikaans for ‘grill’ and the term and the BBQ have been embraced by most of the ethnic groups in the southern hemisphere country. A great day is in store and amongst other deals the club is offering a bucket of beers and a burger for just £10.  The match from Kings Park Durban kicks off at 4pm on SKY TV and will be shown on the big screens in the J.M. Guthrie clubhouse. England coach Stuart Lancaster has taken a 42 man squad to South Africa for a tour which also includes a couple of midweek games and will get look to get off to a winning start in the only tour game played at sea level.

On a ‘Super Saturday’ of international rugby Ireland and Wales on also in action on tours of the southern hemisphere; Ireland are first up at 8am with their first test of three against world champions New Zealand at Eden Park. They have never won a test in New Zealand however coach Declan Kidney will be looking to harness the strength of the all conquering Irish provinces to produce a first ever win. They are however without the services of injured forwards Stephen Ferris and Paul O’Connell although world star Brian O’Driscoll will lead the side. Grand Slam winners Wales will be without centre Jamie Roberts but skipper Sam Warburton is fit again and an almost full strength side will take on an Australian team struggling with injuries at the Telstra Stadium Brisbane kicking off at 10.30am. The second and third tests for all three countries are on the 16th and the 23rd of the month and will be shown at the J.M. Guthrie. Scotland who played Australia on Tuesday morning play Fiji and Samoa respectively on the same dates.
